The TFEQ (Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire) is an eating-behavior scale developed by Stunkard and Messick (1985) and revised by Karlsson and colleagues (2000). It has been cited in hundreds of studies in obesity research, clinical nutrition and behavioral psychology. It looks at three dimensions: cognitive restraint (consciously limiting food intake to control weight), uncontrolled eating (eating in response to outside cues such as smell, sight or social situations rather than hunger), and emotional eating (reaching for food when stressed, anxious, sad or bored).
Answer based on your usual eating habits rather than one unusual meal or a special occasion.
This test is a self-reflection tool, not a diagnosis of an eating disorder. If eating, weight or body image causes you significant distress, please talk to a doctor, a registered dietitian or a licensed counselor.
